The breaking news from Iraq was the alleged bombing of an Iraqi “wedding party” in the western part of the ciuntry near Syria. The arab news media reported that the celebratory gun fire was the impetus for the attack. This was a logical explanation since shooting rounds off at weddings in some parts of Arab world is synonymous with rice throwing.
Not so, says the U.S. Appartently, and not surprisingly, this western part of Iraq is a hub for foreign terrorists who just arrived for the jihad-bash in Iraq. Syria, a baathist regime simillar to Saddam’s, is becoming a more and more popular route to enter Iraq if your intent is to join the insurgency.
What did coaltion forces find in the target areas after the bombardment? Foreign passports and satellite telephones. Oh, and kalashnikovs, sub-machine guns and shotguns. Call me naive, but there may have been something more going on than just an exchange of vows.
